Food Coma at Marieta’s

Hands down, Mexican food is my all-time favorite. Growing up in San Diego there are plenty of different Mexican shops and restaurants around, but Marieta’s is by far the best in my book. Ever since I was little I was hooked on Marieta’s and till this day the quality of their food remains just as delicious as the first time I tried it.

Beef chimichanga

Marieta’s has an amazing weekday lunch special that serves selected items for only $5.95 till 2pm. The weekday lunch specials are printed on top of every paper place-mat so there is no need to even open the menu. Once you are seated, warm tortilla chips are served with their house salsa and pickled carrots. I do not know what is so special about these chips, but they are to die for!  My favorite dish is their beef chimichanga which is topped with lettuce, pico de gallo, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and with a side of rice and beans. Don’t come to Marieta’s if you’re trying have a light lunch because they definitely let you leaving wishing you were wearing sweatpants.

Marieta's bar

If you’re not too hungry and just want to get your drink on, Marieta’s happy hour is from 2pm-6pm every day of the week except Sundays. I recommend getting their margaritas because if you like your drinks strong, Marieta’s definitely knows how to show you a good time. If you can’t make it to their happy hour Monday through Saturday, no worries! Marieta’s offers Sunday champagne brunch from 8am-2pm.

There’s nothing better than good, authentic Mexican food and strong margaritas! I definitely recommend trying Marieta’s and remember to ask for Luis, he’s been working there for 10 years and he is the best! Happy Friday!

Cheers!
