Deal of the Day: Presidential Lounge

If you’re currently a student at a UC, you’re probably dreading the next two weeks. But with a little bit of research, I’ve found the perfect place for you to take the edge off and put yourself at ease before diving into finals. The Presidential Lounge is located only 10 minutes away from UCRiverside at the Mission Inn on 3649 Mission Inn Ave. So how ‘presidential’ are their deals? Good enough in this economy.

Happy Hour is from 4:00pm-6:00pm and starts up again from 9:00pm-11:00pm. They close at midnight which is pretty early but with finals just around the corner, you shouldn’t be out late anyways. The Presidential Lounge deal includes:

  • $3.50 Drafts
  • $2 OFF Well Drinks
  • 1/2 OFF Appetizers

It’s pretty small but I like the fact that it’s simple. Also, can you guess what’s featured here? That’s right! MARGARITAS! The Mission Inn Perfect Margarita (12.95) and The Partida Skinny Margarita ($9.50) are the ones you will want to try. They’re a bit pricey but I highly doubt you’ll need to drink much.

Since St. Patrick’s Day is just five days away. The Presidential Lounge will be featuring specialty drinks for this week only including the Apple Shamrock Martini, Peach Irish Kiss, Irish Jack Rose, St. Paddy’s Peach and an Irish Blond Cocktail. You can check out their other specials and lounge hours for the rest of the week on their website. So finish off the day, grab some friends, and head down the street for a great time.

Until next time… Cheers!

Taco Tuesday…El Torito Style

It would seem I’m a fan of Taco Tuesdays with a side of get-your-drink-on, and that would be right. Some of you may remember a certain post about Taco Tuesdays at Cabo Cantina in Hollywood, which I still highly recommend. Today it’s much closer, at the Riverside Plaza for you UCR students.

What place is it? El Torito! They’ve got dollar tacos from 4-10p.m. and a large selection of drinks for $3 from 2-8p.m. You tell the waiter/waitress how many tacos you want and they bring back a slip with the number printed on them. You get in a buffet style line and you’re given the choice of corn or flour tortillas and you choose between steak, chicken, or carnitas. Past that you have your condiments table, where you can spice up your tacos to your taste. Not bad for a buck a taco!

But tacos are not what we’re all about. You want to have your cake and eat it too right… Well your visit wouldn’t be complete without a few drinks to unwind. Monday through Friday, they have happy hour from 2-8 where their original golden margaritas, well drinks, domestic drafts, and wine are each $3! Maybe you don’t want tacos? Come in any weekday and you’ll still get a good deal on something to snack on while you enjoy your drinks. It’s a win-win, no matter when you come. Otherwise enjoy your drinks and the complimentary chips and salsa.

Alright, so there’s a caveat, and I wouldn’t want to send you in without letting you know. These specials are only available in the cantina section of the restaurant and in the outside area, BUT that’s no problem, though sometimes it will get busy and you’ll have to search for your table. The atmosphere is decidedly better, the rest of the restaurant is a bit on the sad and pathetic side. 😉

Cheers!

Gettin’ Loco at the Green Onion

The other night, I held a birthday dinner at The Green Onion Mexican Restaurant & Cantina located in Moreno Valley, CA. They were able to easily accomodate my large group of 16 and managed to maintain quality customer service throughout the night, which is impressive. So let’s get down to the nitty-gritty.

The food? AMAZING! I ordered a Chicken Burrito, “Wet” style with red and green sauce. The burrito was loaded with plenty of chicken, rice & beans. I was surprised that I was able to finish all of it considering the massive size. My friends ordered a variety of food including Steak Tacos, Shrimp or Chicken Fajitas, Chimichangas, and Enchiladas. Not a single complaint from anyone as everyone uttered the words, “I’ll definitely be coming back.”

Now if the food wasn’t enough of an incentive, the Margaritas were. I know, I know… more margaritas? But let me ask you this. How many places do you know that serve Margaritas by the pitcher? I’m assuming there aren’t much because they would have a tough time competing with The Green Onion. For $15 you get a large pitcher (bigger than what beer normally comes in) and it includes a straw. Yes, a straw for a pitcher (you can see it the corner on the picture to the right)! But if you’re with a group, like I was, just ask for a glass and you’re ready to pour the night away. I have to warn you, be careful! These margaritas definitely creep up on you. I’m sure my Patron shot didn’t help. Nonetheless, everyone that had one, was feeling pretty good afterwards.

So when you get a chance, get a group of friends together and head over to The Green Onion for some great food and even better Margaritas. Good times await at the Canyon Springs Plaza off the 60 Freeway at Day Street, Moreno Valley, CA 92557.

Until next time… Cheers!
