The Edison: “A Hidden Gem”

Have you ever wanted to go back in time? To a different place, a different era. To experience a culture very different from your own. To get completely lost in a moment, to forget where you are, what day it is, and to simply enjoy and reminisce upon the past. Well, have I got the metaphorical time machine for you! The Edison in downtown LA, deemed “One of LA’s Swankiest night spots” by Conde Nast Traveler, is an inexorable treat. A feast for the eyes, ears, and taste-buds, this unique “industrial cathedral” is set in LA’s first private power plant which was built in 1910. This place will literally sweep you off your feet and transport you to a different era. The Old Hollywood Glamour atmosphere invites guests to dress the part and have a simply lovely time.

This place is a bit pricey, but they have a spectacular Happy Hour which is Wed-Fri, 5-7pm. You can indulge in up to 40% savings on selected drinks and food items. Take advantage of their 35 cent martinis and $5 food specials such as the sliders with fries.

They also have special events, performances, and you can even host your own party. On a Wednesday or Thursday, to reserve a table the “per person minimum” is only $25. This minimum jumps up to $50 on a Friday or Saturday (and don’t forget about the 18% gratuity), but I must say this is one place you just HAVE to experience.

I went with a group of friends and we reserved a table in the Tesla Room. I ordered “The Mistress” which is a vodka drink with hibiscus liquor and other exotic flavors (as shown in the picture to the right, it’s the pretty pink drink), “The Edison” which features bourbon and pear brandy, and the “Eye of the Beholder” which is a blend of tequila, lemon, and jalepeno (a spicy, unique cocktail indeed). We also ordered some of their absolutely delicious food. I had the fresh baked Bavarian pretzel which is served with a fluffy white cheese sauce for dipping. Some of the other things ordered include the Truffled Mac n Cheese and the Corn Fritters.

As if what we ordered wasn’t enough, we had to get a bottle of Absinthe from the Absinthe Fairy. A lovely young lady wearing gilded fairy wings wheels around a cart of diverse bottles of absinthe (featured in the photo, it’s the bottle topped with the cork) available for purchase. So, we all shared a shot of absinthe and it really set the night off.

This place is truly something memorable. It is literally hidden in an alley, so be sure get directions ahead of time. If you are ever in downtown LA or just want something fun to do check out The Edison, see what all the buzz is about! It is located at 108 W 2nd St #101 Los Angeles, CA 90012.

Also, check out their AMAZING website. If my post doesn’t get you in the mood to visit this extraordinary place, the website definitely will. Check it out! http://www.edisondowntown.com/

I definitely want to go here again soon and hopefully you will want to experience this place too!

Cheers!

Drink of the Day: Booty Drop

Thursday is here and I’m ready to drink! The drink I have in mind is called Booty Drop and let me tell you, it’s strong and beyond yummy. The recipe is very simple and consists of:

-1/2 oz. Rum

-1/2 oz. Vodka

-1/2 oz. Pink Grapefruit Juice

Mix the ingredients all together and serve in a martini glass. Even though the Booty Drop is served traditionally in a martini glass, a red cup will suffice. 😉

Let the good times roll. Cheers!

Drink of the Day: Appletini

Everyone loves an Appletini right?! I know I do! The sultry green color and delicious sour apple taste always leaves me satisfied. Come on, I know all you tough fellas out there would even like this drink. It’s so easy to make and yet so very tasty and rewarding. Ingredients:

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz green-apple schnapps

Directions:

  1. Pour the ingredients into cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
  2. Shake well.
  3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Now wasn’t that simple? So whether you are entertaining or it’s just a party for one, mix it up and enjoy this simple, yet classic martini.

Cheers!

Great Thai-ms at Banana Bay

Let’s get out of the Inland Empire tonight and if the title didn’t give it away, Banana Bay is a Thai restaurant located at 18230 Colima Rd in Rowland Heights, CA 91748. I know… that’s a bit a far from my local suggestions but trust me, if you’re a fan of Thai food or want to enjoy a great happy hour, then this is the place for you.

Starting at 10PM-Close (Mon-Thurs: 1AM, Fri-Sat: 2AM), you can enjoy a large assortment of “2 For” deals. Let me give you an example. You can either buy ONE ‘Jack & Coke’ for $5.01 or TWO for $8.20. Yeah, these prices are a little weird but you’re still saving some money per drink and it’s even better if you’re splitting with someone. The “2 For” deals go as low as $7.29 ($5.00 if you want to include Jello Shots) and upwards of $9.11 for a ‘Hello Kitty.’ No idea what that is but it better be worth it. You can see the rest of the deals in the pictures.

No only are their drinks great but their food is amazing! I ordered the Combination Pad See Ew which not only filled me up but left me completely satisfied for being under $9. I gulped it down with a Thai Iced Coffee which was flavored perfectly, not too much coffee and not too sweet. After my meal, my friend and I decided to try a “2 For” deal and settled on the ‘Thai Tea Twister.’

Although it wasn’t bad, it was a bit much after already eating my meal and drinking a Thai Iced Coffee.  It was pretty sweet since it included Baileys, Amaretto, & Kahlua mixed with Thai Tea. Too much of this and you’re in for an awesome hangover. Maybe next time, I’ll order it at the beginning of my meal.

Anyways, if you don’t have plans tonight… get a group of friends together and head out to Rowland Heights. By the way, this place would be perfect for a date. Just a heads up.

Until next time.. Cheers!

Drink of the Day: Pink Panties

So one day I was at home chilling with my cousin and she said, “I sure could use some Pink Panties.” Perplexed, I responded, “I think Victoria’s Secret is having their 5 for $25 sale otherwise I can’t help you.” She laughed and responded “No stupid…the drink.” I laughed and said, “Well how do you make it and will it cost a lot? Because I’m a student on a budget!” She said, “It’s so easy.” And it was well worth it…

Ingredients:

1 Can of frozen pink lemonade mix

1 Bottle of your favorite Vodka or Gin

1 tablespoon of Cool Whip

Ice

Strawberries (Optional)

Directions:

First fill a blender about 2/3 of the way with ice. Add a little less than half the can of pink lemonade. Next, add a tablespoon of Cool Whip and blend. The end result should be a thick creamy delight. If not, just add more ice. Also you can add strawberries for a compliment of flavor. Enjoy!!!

So the next time you’re at home yearning for something cool to drink just whip up some Pink Panties!!

But remember…

Pink Panties

NOT Pink Panties!!!!
Cheers!!!
